GUSTO
60 Greenwich Ave.
New York, NY 10011
(212) 924-8000
www.gustonyc.com
PRICE: $8–$16 app, $16–$39 entrées

The claim at Gusto is that it is “as close to actually dining in Italy as it gets.” The Pan-Italian menu includes the restaurant’s famous fried artichokes; fresh pastas such as the half-moon ravioli with black truffle or bucatini with sardines, pine nuts, and raisins; delicious seafood dishes such as the pan-seared scallops with braised dandelions; and meat options such as the filet mignon wrapped in lardo. The rustic Italian cuisine is balanced by the chic but comfortable black-and-white decor, which is heavily influenced by Italian films from the 1960s.

HILL COUNTRY
30 W. 26th St.
New York, NY 10010
(212) 255-4544
www.hillcountryny.com
PRICE:$4–$16 app, $11–$20 entrées

Head to Hill Country, the Texasthemed barbeque joint, for moist brisket and pork ribs by the pound. Order a bowl of red chili, white shoepeg corn pudding, or sweet potato bourbon mash on the side. The restaurant features a meat-smoking room, two full bars, and a stage where country and roots bands provide live music.

INSIEME
The Michelangelo Hotel
777 Seventh Ave.
New York, NY 10019
(212) 582-1310
www.restaurantinsieme.com
PRICE: $12–$18 app, $29–$36 entrées

Insieme means “together” in Italian, referring to the philosophy at Insieme of bringing together the Old World and the New World. From the “traditional” side, start with the fritto misto alla lucchese, which includes calf liver, sweetbreads, veal cutlet, veal tongue, and asparagus, and then enjoy the lasagne verde bolognese or the grass-fed Piemontese T-bone steak for two. On the “contemporary” menu, opt for the lamb carpaccio with fava beans, spring onion, and aged pecorino toscano crisp and the seafood risotto with bonito and sea urchin.

L’ATELIER DE JOËL ROBUCHON
Four Seasons Hotel
57 E. 57th St.
New York, NY 10022
(212) 350-6658
www.fourseasons.com/newyorkfs/dining.html
PRICE: $12–$68 app, $17–$88 entrées

One of the world’s most revered and respected chefs, Joël Robuchon, has finally opened his New York restaurant, and the result is sophisticated and creative. Favorites such as the truffled mashed potatoes and the free-range quail stuffed with foie gras are found on the menu, along with seasonal items. Also try the sea urchin in warm fennel broth or the beef and foie gras burgers with lightly caramelized bell peppers. A variety of desserts such as an almond soufflé with jubilee bing cherries and bitter almond ice cream, or the grapefruit segments with wine gelee and mint sorbet complete your dining experience.

THE STANTON SOCIAL
99 Stanton St.
New York, NY 10002
(212) 995-0099
www.thestantonsocial.com
PRICE: $3–$21 small plates

The Stanton Social is a gorgeous restaurant and lounge that is described as a modern New York bistro. The menu consists of a full raw bar as well as small plates designed to be shared, such as French onion soup dumplings, duck empanadas, Kobe beef burgers, lobster roll sliders, and Beef Wellington. The decor evokes 1940s glamour via a variety of textures and lighting, including a 30-foot glowing wall that displays over 2,000 bottles of wine.

TOCQUEVILLE
1 E. 15th St.
New York, NY 10003
(212) 647-1515
www.tocquevillerestaurant.com
PRICE: $14–$22 app, $29–$40

The philosophy at Tocqueville is to use the best seasonal ingredients in a fresh, innovative way. Perhaps it is this same attitude that inspired the husband and wife owners to renovate the restaurant less than 6 years after the original opening in 2000. Menu items include creative dishes such as sea urchin and angel hair carbonara as well as a house-cured pressed terrine of duck foie gras with sherry wine pearls and pickled fig compote. There are also a variety of seafood and meat dishes like confit red snapper, slow-cooked halibut, 21-day aged rib-eye, and lemonscented chicken. Don’t miss the critically acclaimed wine list plus the house cocktails and sake selection.
